Joe Zawinul, keyboardist for the immensely popular jazz group Weather Report, died of cancer last week at the age of 75. Though his former band-mate bassist Jaco Pastorius often stole the show, it was Zawinul who created the vision and flavor of Weather Report’s sound. (Jaco himself was beaten to death by a bouncer at a Miami club in 1987).
