No Bailout For Newspapers

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs says he’s not sure the government can do much to stop the decline of newspapers around the country.

He says any efforts to infuse cash-strapped papers with funds could affect the nation’s free press. That to me sounds like a copout. I’m not sure anyone on either side of the political spectrum really believes the mainstream press is totally "free" as it is. Instead of much needed bucks, the industry will have to make do with Gibbs’ "concern and sadness" about newspapers’ troubles.
