I hesitate to even call Harry O obscure since it was on ABC for two whole years starting in 1974, yet almost no one remembers its greatness. Screen legend David Janssen starred as detective Harry Orwell, a retired cop with a bullet lodged in his spine and a crummy car that was always in the shop. It’s a depressing premise brought to life by Janssen’s half-assed smile and a beautufully maudlin theme song (click the youtube thing). By the end of its run, the writers were killing off Harry’s friends every week just to make it more depressing. Then, most depressing of all… it was cancelled in favor of Charlie’s Angels.
