"Everybody raise your hand if you make $2.5 million a year," Sen. Barack Obama told a crowd at Rio Grande High School yesterday with a smirk. "If you make more than $2.5 million a year, you might want to think about voting for John McCain."Obama was introduced by Gov. Bill Richardson, who came out in support of Obama well before the primary race between the Illinois Senator and Sen. Hillary Clinton had a clear victor. When asked a question about his health care plan, Obama told the crowd his proposal is very similar to the one Richardson had proposed during the legislative session in January. The democratic presidential candidate did not have the same camaraderie with another local politician, Mayor Martin Chavez. Shortly after he was introduced Obama said something to the effect of, "He’s not on the list, but I just noticed your mayor is here. Give it up for your mayor of this great city!" I think it’s safe to say Obama doesn’t know Chavez’ name.Obama got the biggest rise from the crowd when he brought up comments by one of McCain’s former economic advisers Phil Gramm, who last month called America a "nation of whiners" suffering from a "mental recession.""McCain’s adviser must not pump his own gas, he must not buy his own groceries and he must not pay his own bills," Obama said to booming applause.
