What do they have in common? I’ve lived in New Mexico for almost 15 years and just learned that the great American hotelier, Conrad Hilton, was born in Socorro. He also built his very first hotel there (well, a country store and inn anyway) as well as the La Posada de Albuquerque, the first modern high-rise hotel in New Mexico.Mr. Hilton attended New Mexico Tech, St. Johns College and the New Mexico Military Institute. I don’t see how these schools would lead him into the hotel business, but as a bookkeeper who has a history background I’m not one to talk.I also didn’t realize he was married to Zsa Zsa Gabor and that one of his sons married Elizabeth Taylor. And yes, Conrad was Paris’s great grand daddy. She has a Socorro native to thank for her posh life.
