Here’s an article in The New York Times about a wastewater treatment plant in Southern California that super-filters sewage from your toilet until it’s cleaner than rain water. Once the filtration process is complete, the water gets sent to the faucets of thousands of SoCalers for drinking. It sounds gross, of course, but once you get the thought of drinking urine out of your mind, it’s actually a great idea—more ecologically responsible than other techniques for bringing water to the desert, and it’s safe to consume. Drink up!
