Officers are searching for Cesar Dominguez Garcia, 21, who they say fired a gun at the University of New Mexico Hospital this afternoon. No one was shot. He fired twice in general pediatrics at 3:15 p.m., according to police. He was seen leaving through ambulance bay heading West, and wearing a white T-shirt, black pants and white shoes. He has three tattoo dots under one eye and a single dot under the other. He is considered armed and dangerous, says Police Chief Ray Schultz.Lomas from Yale to University is closed. The hospital and UNM’s north campus were on lockdown, but that was lifted about 30 minutes ago. He and his girlfriend were at the hospital with a child patient, according to Schultz. They got into an argument, and after a physical altercation, he fired his gun, the police chief says. UPDATE 5:03 p.m. —This just in from T.J. Wilham, the city’s public safety spokesperson:
At 3:10 p.m. the Albuquerque Police Department was called to the University of New Mexico Hospital on a report of shooting on the sixth floor of the Richardson Pavilion. The hospital was placed on lockdown and the first arriving officers started searching for suspect. Witnesses on scene told officers that a female patient was with her child in a room when the woman’s boyfriend came in and started arguing with her. During the dispute the man started hitting the woman and family members immediately intervened. While family was trying to get control of the man, he pulled out a small caliber handgun. The suspect purposely fired the handgun and fled. No one was hit or injured. For more than an hour numerous agencies searched inside and outside the hospital. Surveillance video shows the man leaving the hospital about an hour after the incident.
