"Don’t Ask Don’t Tell" has been the U.S. military’s ad hoc policy for "dealing" with gay service people since the Clinton administration, and Congresswoman Ellen Tauscher says it’s time to end that ban.

But how does the rest of the developed world deal with the issue of gays in the military?
PFLAG communications director Steve Ralls does a quick sketch in this Huffington Post blog:

"Few nations continue to exclude qualified lesbian and gay troops from their armed forces, and most of the world’s most effective militaries – including Great Britain, Canada and others – long ago ended their military bans."
