The future is grim for the rollies. Monte’s Pueblo Pipe Shop just confirmed that Jester Tobacco is no more. The future of Bali Shag is unknown, according to Monte’s, but Marco of Downtown Central Market claims it’s out of production as well. One thing is for certain: the federal “floor tax” on rolling tobacco was raised to such an extreme level that tobacco shops can’t afford to carry it. According to Monte’s, the price of a can to the consumer would shoot up to $60. High grade European tobaccos will no longer be exported to the United States. Monte’s speculates that Drum, Top and Bugler may continue to be available.Sniff.
