My Gener8ion!

For those who aren’t in the know (like myself), M.I.A. was recently featured on a track by Gener8ion, a new musical project by French electronic producer Surkin. Surkin released a new EP under the moniker (titled
The New Inernational Sound Pt. II), and he’s also shared a video for the record’s title track (which, as I said before, features M.I.A.). The video shows some footage of students from Shaolin Tagou, which, according to Pitchfork, is the largest youth fighting school in China. So have a looksie at some little badasses below.

Flap those metal wings!

While I’m not a huge fan of Josh Homme, his name does hold some cachet in the rock world, having worked with such bands as Kyuss, Queens of the Stone Age and Them Crooked Vultures. But with a project name like Eagles of Death Metal, it’s hard not to snicker and then click the link, you know what I mean? This duo consists of Homme and Jesse Hughes, and they’re gearing up to release their first new record in seven years, titled
Zipper Down. To give folks a taste of what that’ll sound like, they’ve shared album track “Complexity,” which you can hear over at Consequence of Sound. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Vile’s goin’ down!

Singer-songwriter
Kurt Vile is planning on releasing a new record soon. Not sure how soon, as no release date has been announced, but this is how these things always start, folks. Not only that; Vile is planning on touring said upcoming release (b’lieve i’m goin down…), but sadly won’t be making a stop in the Duke City, not like when he was touring his last album, the phenomenal Wakin on a Pretty Daze. Either way, this is good news any way you swing it. So keep those eyes peeled, and watch a teaser for the album below. Cheers!

Those hungry modern girls

In case you’re not familiar with
Carrie Brownstein, she’s kind of a big deal. From being one third of one of the greatest rock bands ever (Sleater-Kinney) to being one half of the comedic duo that’s responsible for the hit IFC show “Portlandia,” the woman’s got a lot of cred under her belt. And now she can add published writer to her list of accomplishments, as she’s gearing up to release her memoir Hunger Makes Me a Modern Girl. That’s officially getting released on Oct. 27, just in time to make for a nice Halloween gift to your dark, angsty friends. And now Brownstein has shared the cover art for the book, which you can view by heading over to NME. ‘Cause why not?

“Dreams” with Beck

Oh snap! We’ve got Beck returning to his funky fresh self with new track “
Dreams.” After winning the Album of the Year Grammy this past year for his album Morning Phase, the singer-songwriter is dropping the frown and kick-stepping with a little jammer to turn it upside down, ya dig? He ain’t sad anymore. Or is he just covering it up with a dance-tastic number? Who cares?! It’s new music. And Beck also said the track is the first tune on an upcoming album, which means there’s more! Either way, I’m happy. Have a listen below.
