I share a knowing glance with my beautiful new black friend as another woman explains to her not only how beautiful she is, but how she is being humiliated and mistreated by a woman assumed to be her friend. A shy man who has helped her from the beginning stokes the fire while this beauty tells him how right they are for each other. I feel pangs of jealousy and loss.
