I stand in the Sandia foothills and watch huge plumes of smoke rising from a fire in the Jemez. 100 yards in front of me the ground starts to shake and explode in tendrils. At first I think it’s a spontaneous oil strike. Rockets emerge, and now people are running and riding horses to get away. I know I must run or die but I really want to see.
