You all know by now that the indoor smoking ban goes into effect Friday. But you might not have caught that the Mayor has signed an executive order banning smoking on all outdoor city property as well. That’s parks, Civic Plaza and the outside the airport. That ban starts Friday as well.If you want my opinion, the law forcing businesses to ban smoking is super lame. Business owners should be able to make that decision for themselves based on profit. And if the federal government can’t stand up to big tobacco, then why should the burden fall on smaller municipalities? It’s not illegal to buy, sell or smoke ‘em after all. But the city can do what it likes with its property I guess. Head out to your favorite bar tonight and tomorrow and light up while you can.
