Has it really been that long already? Twenty-five years ago, seven crew members (including would-be first teacher in space Christa McAuliffe) boarded the ill-fated Space Shuttle Challenger. Many watched on TV as the shuttle disintegrated 73 seconds into its flight. Beginning at 9 a.m. today at the Challenger Learning Center (1776 Montaño NW), attend a tribute ceremony and hear from keynote speaker and former astronaut Joseph P. Allen. Then on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., get hands-on with activities featuring a rocket building workshop, a star lab stargazing dome, the Space Shuttle Hot Air Balloon, and a variety of booths set up by ¡explora!, the Albuquerque Library, Friends of Tijeras Pueblo, the National Solar Observatory and Spaceport America. For more on the weekend’s events, call the center at 248-1776 or visit challengernm.org.
