In the news section this month, we’re running an ongoing series about super PACs, those outside political groups that can spend as much as they want to influence elections. And spend they do, to the tune of more than $185 million so far. We looked at state PACs in the edition of the Alibi on stands right now. For extra fun, we scoped out national PACs in a web exclusive, too.

In our next issue, you’ll get a look at who New Mexico’s top PAC contributors are.

For all the talk about PACs and their fat wads of cash, it turns out
two other groups have spent more money on this year’s election than all of the PACs combined —Crossroads GPS (which Heather Wilson used to work for) and Americans for Prosperity, a major Tea Party funder. Because they’re nonprofits and not super PACs, they don’t have to disclose who their donors are.
