Spring is almost here, can you feel it? Soon an oversized anonymous bunny will be depositing chocolate eggs and other sugary treats into intentionally misplaced baskets. I always thought that was a bit strange in my younger days, but being the naïve prepubescent that I was I didn’t question anything that was sweet, tasty and dentally catastrophic.

Bombs Away!

This Saturday is one of only two days out of the year to visit the Trinity Site. This site is where the very first atomic bomb was tested way back in 1945, and event that changed warfare forever. Get there between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. where you will drive 17 miles to the acclaimed site, but don’t touch the shiny green objects; those are still radioactive. Uranium-free hot dogs and refreshments will be available in the parking lot before the drive to the site itself. The site is five miles south of Highway 380, between the towns of Carrizozo and Socorro in White Sands Missile Range. It’s free and guaranteed to be a little spooky. Hey, Kid, Don’t Water That Grass!

More a public service announcement than a weekend to-do thingy, time-of-day watering restrictions began Wednesday of this week and will last through October 31 st . What this means is that you must only water your lawn/landscape either before 11 a.m. or after 7 p.m. or get faced with a nasty fine that can range from $20 to $2,000. Because water is so scarce in this little high desert of ours, the onset of heat and wind during spring is detrimental to the water supply, and when used during the day evaporates quickly. Palm Sunday at Old Town

For all the Catholic folk, the Old Town Plaza will be hosting a procession in celebration of Palm Sunday at 10:15 a.m. In attendance will be the San Felipe de Neri Parish, the Youth Retreat Attendees and the San Felipe de Neri Choir. To get to the Plaza, take Rio Grande south to Mountain Road, turn left on to Old Town Plaza and the Plaza will be on your left.
