The Buddha Machine

Like the Matrix, “Nirvana is impossible to define directly; it can only be experienced or realized.” Fortunately, fellow heads on the venerable DroneOn mailing list turned me on to this brilliant little handheld device that compacts the eternal goal of Buddhism itself into a colorful made-in-China plastic case (not unlike the classic Regency TR-1 transistor radio ripped off by Apple for its defunct iPod mini). The Buddha Machine is “an ‘instant’ sound installation” designed by electronic musicians FM3 to deliver one of nine selectable onboard drone loops until the AA batteries run out. At last a toy my two-year-old and I can enjoy equally.
