Yesterday I received a box of goodies in the mail from former Alibi food critic Jennifer Wohletz. Inside I found wine jellies dipped in dark chocolate. There were three flavors: Port, Champagne and red wine. I like the Port ones best.

Digging deeper into the box I found my real present: Two Burgundy truffles. Jenn had wrapped them in gauze and packed then in a jar of
fleur de sel . The truffles had lent their strong scent to the salt so long after the truffles are gone, I’ll have some aromatic salt to sprinkle on eggs or whatever. To get even more use out of the truffles I plunked them into a jar of arborio rice to get the same effect as the salt. Yummy.

She also sent an artisan white-truffle salami with a card attached explaining that she knew how I loved big sausages. Merry Christmas to you, too, Jenn.
