Yes, the Ojito Wilderness might seem like a strange place for an Easter egg hunt. Located near Cabezon Peak, about an hour drive northwest of Albuquerque, this gorgeously desolate area only became a designated federal wilderness area last year http://www.nmwild.org/campaigns/ojito. It’s a forbidding badlands characterized by multicolored mesas, hills and hoodoos–towering mushroom-shaped limestone sculptures carved by the desert wind. City Council President and wilderness junky Martin Heinrich has created the best online guide to the area. It’s a little dated, but it will get you where you want to go. Check it out at ojito.org http://www.ojito.org/explore.html. We tromped around the “Hoodoo Pines” area. Here are a few photos.
