She may not be a household name, but her powerful voice is imprinted on the brains of anyone who has ever turned on a radio. Martha Wash’s career began in the late ’70s, backing Sylvester as half of the disco act Two Tons O’ Fun. In the ’80s the group became The Weather Girls, and the pair released the promiscuous and omnipresent hit "It’s Raining Men." Struggling with an "unmarketable image" due to her size, Wash became a successful session singer, lending her veiled vocals to C+C Music Factory’s "Everybody Dance Now." Since then she’s gone on to produce a body of dance hits as a solo performer and is a shining star in the gay community. See her perform tonight at 8 p.m. PrideFest, Expo New Mexico (300 San Pedro NE).
