Giddy Giddens J.R. Giddens is going to the NBA. The Boston Celtics plucked the Lobo men’s basketball standout with the 30th pick in this year’s draft. Giddens is going to make more than a million dollars over the next two years even if he doesn’t make the Celtics’ roster. In a not so glamorous incident, Giddens was stabbed in the leg during a bar fight in Kansas his sophomore year. That was a major reason why he transferred from Kansas to New Mexico for his last two years of college. Some NBA scouts were probably worried about Giddens "character issues," but he seemed to get along fine with Lobos head coach Steve Alford. The 6-foot-5 Giddens is one of the most athletic players UNM has ever had. He’s short for a small-forward, but he can probably guard multiple positions because of his long wingspan and tremendous jumping ability. Celtics coach Doc Rivers has said Giddens has a chance to make the team because of his defense, which is an underrated aspect of the 23-year-old’s game.
