In what is being called one of the greatest tennis matches on tennis’ grandest stage, Rafael Nadal defeated Roger Federer to become the Wimbledon champion.

The match lasted nearly five hours and, in the end, Nadal snapped Federer’s string of five straight victories at Wimbledon. In many analysts’ eyes, Nadal’s victory earns him the right to be called the No. 1 player in tennis, a title Federer has held for the last four years.

The Williams Sisters Take Center Court

Venus Williams beat her sister Serena to claim her fifth Wimbledon title. It was Venus’ seventh major championship of her career. When the Williams sisters play each other, the matches can sometimes seem to lack a certain amount of competitive fire. This probably has something to do with the close bond the sisters share. Save for a lack of exuberance after her victory, Venus’ performance this weekend was energetic and focused. For her part, Serena didn’t disappoint, either,

taking the early lead before falling in two straight sets.
