Crazy for Costas

The 2008 Summer Olympics have been a joy to watch. The opening ceremony was nice, record breaking is always a treat, plus different cultures coming together on one stage to blah blah blah. Let’s face it though, the best reason to watch the Olympics is Bob Costas. I hardly ever get to see Bobby because I don’t get HBO, where he hosts "On the Record" and "Costas Now." He used to do a lot of anchoring and sports-casting for NBC, but, besides the Olympics, the peacock has pretty much eliminated its sports coverage.

It’s rare that a person can display such attention and dedication to his craft with an effortless charm and an unflinching sense of dignity. I could listen to Bobby read from a dictionary for three hours straight and it would be pure paradise. His mysterious flowing hair (Is it a toupee? Is it an odd assortment of plugs? If it’s his real hair, why hasn’t his barber been shot?), and his captivating presence are the stuff of dreams.

Every four years when the Olympics arrive, it carries with it the sweet promise of Costas by the barrel full. But, it’s never enough. In hopes of finding a year-round source o’ Costas, I took to the internet and found a
blog dedicated to all things Bobby. The blog seems to keep a stalker-like watch on the anchor’s movements, and I think I’ve finally found a place that understands what Bobby really means to America and the world.
