The city is asking grocers to voluntarily pull off the shelves cantaloupe grown by Rocky Ford in southern Colorado. The Food and Drug Administration is looking into three deaths linked to the melons. Two deaths happened in Bernalillo County and one happened in Curry County, reports KOAT.

Bacteria was found on the rinds of the cantaloupe, which caused several cases of Listeriosis, according to preliminary investigations. The
symptoms of the illness include fever, muscle aches, nausea and diarrhea. A person exposed to the bacteria could experience the gastro-intestinal symptoms within 48 hours. Others symptoms could take weeks to develop.
