In addition to honoring colonialism, war, genocide, disease and death with Columbus Day, today also rings in National Coming Out Day. Even if you’re not gay, you can show support for your LGBT friends, family and coworkers. In a year when we’ve so far failed to repeal Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell and gay teen suicides are in the news almost every week, National Coming Out Day is particularly poignant—and necessary.
