Last week, I found myself in the student ghetto with a case of the munchies. I had heard good things about Times Square Deli Mart and decided to give their highly touted chicken parmesan sandwich a try. The atmosphere in the restaurant/mart (located on the southwest corner of Central and Yale) leaves something to be desired with the bars on the windows, and general convenience store aura surrounding the place. Still, there’s nothing shoddy about the grub. The chicken parmesan was lightly breaded, tender and doused in tomato sauce. If you have an insatiable salt-tooth like myself, you’ll want to add a little to the chicken but, other than that, the sandwich is perfect as is. (I’ve also heard good things about the sausage and peppers, and the Philly cheesesteak.) For $5.95, you get a sandwich and a side of either potato or pasta salad. You can also accessorize your meal with some gas station favorites like sour gummy worms or Gatorade. Be ready to take your sandwich to go because there aren’t really places to sit in or outside the restaurant.
