I’m giving away three pairs of tickets to Dweezil Zappa Plays Zappa tonight at the Sunshine. My first Zappa album was Zoot Allures ; I found it in the used bins at Natural Sound on Menaul in the late ‘70s. As I listened to it, I was initially disappointed until I heard the title track, which is among his lesser masterpieces.My brother had lots of Zappa albums and I’ve spent a lifetime trying to assemble the best of what came blasting from his bedroom. As it turned out, there was no one album I could buy; my favorites were scattered across dozens of albums, sometimes planted in the middle of other songs that had nothing to do with them. There are still some I haven’t found, but I’ll know them when I hear them. And, of course, I’ve discovered and re-discovered dozens more favorites during my search.The first three people to share their own Zappa stories will win a pair of tickets.
