The Kosmos, part of Factory on 5th Art Space, says it opened a cash-only café yesterday. Find the arts hub and eatery at 1715 Fifth Street NW, just south of I-40.

Last week, the space’s vice president and CFO Jerry Miller told me that The Kosmos was looking forward to filling a need in the area. That part of Fifth Street is home to numerous warehouses, auxiliary rail and a freeway, but there’s almost nothing in the way of food. Since The Kosmos already has a reputation for serving the best espresso drinks in town at the
Church of Beethoven, people seem willing to give other edibles at The Kosmos “a shot.” (Barista humor, please forgive me.)

The website lists locally roasted coffee courtesy of Fat Boy Roasters, an “exotic drink menu with recipes from around the world,” breakfast burritos, baked goods and “affordable, nutritious & delicious ($5-7) lunch options” in a “cozy, re-claimed warehouse ambiance.” The Kosmos also has free wi-fi and a 15 percent discount for bike riders—a nice gesture for morning commuters on their way Downtown. The Kosmos’ posted hours are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Saturday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you go, post a comment here and tell me what you think!
