This past Friday night, the Alibi sponsored Albuquerque’s very first Zombie Crawl. Happy to report, the event was a raging success! Well over 200 zombies converged on UNM’s Johnson Field at 9 p.m. Costumes were incredibly inventive, amusing and icky. One group even rolled up in an actual hearse.

Shortly after that,
Alibi film editor Devin D. O’Leary (yours truly) led the shambling horde through Nob Hill to menace the living. Prizes were handed out, dancing was spontaneous, and dozens of innocent bystanders stopped to take pictures of the block-long parade of decaying flesh.

Zombies who were over the age of 21 (before they died) shuffled into Monte Vista Fire Station. Those under 21 hung out at Ecco Gelato. I bounced between the two spots, sharing food and drinks with tons of happy zombies. What a fun bunch of stiffs! One enthusiastic group even carpooled down from Santa Fe to take part in the Crawl.

At 11 p.m., the zombies who were still sober enough to stand headed to the Guild Cinema for a sold-out 40
th anniversary screening of George A. Romero’s Night of the Living Dead . What an evening. By 1:30 a.m. zombies could still be seen wandering in and out of bars and restaurants in Nob Hill!

There are still a handful of commemorative Zombie Crawl T-shirts available at Burning Paradise (8
th Street and Central). If you didn’t get one at the crawl, go grab one now!

Big thanks go out to all our sponsors, and to each and every living dead girl and living dead boy who dressed up for the event. Rest assured, we will do this again!!!

(P.S. If you’ve got your own photos of the event, please share them here on the
Alibi blog, or post links to them.)
