These restaurants will give you the best food for stuffing yourself silly.

Best Comfort Food

Sometimes we need a shoulder to cry on; other times we need a country fried steak to remind us that everything is going to be all right. Comfort food doesn’t get much better than meatloaf or a hot turkey plate at the Range Cafe. If mac and cheese wasn’t comforting enough, try the Range’s version with a white cheddar sauce prepared with Marble’s Wildflower Wheat and some roasted New Mexico green. I’m feeling better already.

Best Buffet

Stuck deciding between murgh tikka makhani and saag paneer? Why not have both? Or what if you don’t know the difference between the two? Taj Mahal’s lunch buffet is the perfect place to get a little of everything on your plate. Grab a piece of garlic naan and get to dipping.

3) Taaj Palace

Best Chain

Forget your Shake Shacks and In-N-Outs, Blake’s is slowly but surely asserting its fiery dominance with Lotaburgers, seasoned fries and chocolate shakes. With New Mexico fairly well covered, Lotaburger locations have started popping up across state lines in El Paso and coming to Arizona. World domination can’t be far behind.

3) Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen

Best Greasy Spoon

Alibi readers are split on this one. On one hand we have Mannies, the longstanding diner where breakfast plates smothered in green chile have been helping folks in Nob Hill nurse their hangovers for decades. On the other hand is Freddy’s, the new-to-Albuquerque frozen custard chain that can serve up a satisfying steakburger on the spot. You can’t go wrong either way.

2) Murphy’s Mule Barn

3) Grandma’s K&I Diner

Largest Portions

Dominating this category is Weck’s, due in no small part to its papas, a veritable mountain of hash browns with choices like carne adovada and carnitas. Go over the top with the Papa Grande, a double portion of an already tremendous tower of potato, certain to satiate the appetite of even the hungriest Burqueño.
