Brunch Concert Event Supports Education

Rude Boy Brunch Brings It To Villa Hispana

A rousing, rocking and gastronomically satisfying first-of-its-kind music, food and charity event happening Sunday, Aug. 26 will be anything but rude.

The first-ever “Rude Boy Brunch and Day Party: Wake Up and Reggae!” is happening at Expo NM’s Villa Hispana from Noon until 4pm. Featuring rockin’ Reggae music, an all-you-can-eat-brunch-buffet, a full-service bar, and a vendor market, this family-friendly event celebrates the close of summer and support our local teachers through the Golden Apple Foundation.

Rude Boy Brunch general admission tickets cost $10, with VIP early admission tickets available for $20. The huge brunch buffet is available for $13 featuring everything from traditional breakfast fare to a waffle station and taco station. The full-service bar will include mimosas and a separate Bloody Mary Bar. Rude Boy Cookies will be on site selling their cookies and ice cream sandwiches as well.

DJ Ruda will be spinning tunes all afternoon, and two live Reggae bands—Iyah Band and the headliner, local favorites Revíva, will take the stage at the amphitheater so the crowd can enjoy a full concert.

A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Golden Apple Foundation, which supports teachers in New Mexico through recognition and professional development opportunities, to help our overall education system.

The Rude Boy Brunch and Day Party is the brainchild of Mike Silva, Founder/Co-Owner of Rude Boy Cookies. A huge Reggae and Ska music fan, Mike has been in bands since his high school days. His love of that music inspired the concept of his cookie shop, and this event is his way of sharing that love with his community and supporting The Golden Apple foundation, a cause he is extremely passionate about.

“I am excited about the potential of this event,” he says. “I am always looking for opportunities to bring our community together in a positive way. When you put Reggae, good food, the great people of Albuquerque, and cookies together, it’s bound to be a great party!”

Mike intends for this to be the first of many such community celebrations. He already has a second Rude Boy Brunch planned for Sept. 30 at Villa Hispana. More details to come on that closer to the event date.
