The low-lit atmosphere and friendly staff make admiring this shop’s numerous boards for snow and skate a reverent experience. Browse the extensive T-shirt collection, or check out the watches, stickers, wallets and DVDs that would make great gifts for the skater (or anyone else) you know.

One Potata

The fabric is substantial and the stitches sturdy on this well-made, higher-end clothing for newborns through kids size 12. It’s the century of the tutu and sparkly shoes for kids, says the clerk, and One Potata’s got both. Outfits by TutuLegz, a local company, boast practical, not-so-poofy tutus with comfortable leggings underneath. Christmas tree ornaments that double as puzzle pieces were made by a mom in town and are displayed proudly at the register. There are good deals to be found on these unusual gifts for both parent and kid.

Desert Rose Trading

Owner Jay King is an adventurer who travels the world over, looking for new stones for jewelry. Unusually colored and set with detail, the pieces are chunky and simply shaped. Nothing in the store costs more than $200, and there are $5 amethyst bracelets and $10 rings on display. You’ll also find some lovely candles, plush jewelry boxes and oils.

High Desert Bicycles

Bikes for ages. Racks and racks of bikes in every color, shape and size. That’s the first thing that hits the shopper entering this bicycle shrine. But you don’t have to lay out big bucks to come home with an impressive present. Flasks, Pedro’s Beverage Wrench bottle openers, a copy of Zinn and the Art of Road Bike Maintenance , barbecue utensils that look like bike tools, decorative horns and bells will all do the trick for even the occasional rider. And for your hardcore friends, scope out the huge selection of gear, clothing and helmets.
