Sukhmani is a family endeavor. Behind the counter, Sat Bachan Anthony smiles and says the store is named for his niece. His wife painted the images adorning the walls. With his mother, he makes the uncommon and beautiful jewelry they sell—chunks of stone in beautiful settings. His sister Sat Gurumukh Khalsa co-owns the small but uncluttered shop. The environment is calm and relaxing. Inexpensive candles and body products line the shelves, and glass cases house jewelry at a variety of prices.

It’s nice to enter a space where the unexpected is valued. Rare finds fill this small home decor shop. Odd clocks, a steampunkish lamp made of gears, perfect globe trees in shiny containers—this is the place to seek a gift for a classy friend with unusual tastes. The owner combs sales everywhere, seeking pieces that resonate with her. In addition to larger items, trinkets such as charms for necklaces and novel coasters make easy, one-of-a-kind presents.
Grumpy's Guitars
Open for a year and a half, Grumpy’s is a home for wayward guitars—the classics and the weirdos. A guitar with the body of a machine gun is mounted to one wall. Mandolins, refurbished amplifiers, ukuleles— flying V ukuleles —acoustic and electric guitars, banjos, a violin, all things pluckable and strumable are welcome. You never know what’s going to show up there. The amp selection is outstanding if you’re in the market for something used or refurbished. Grumpy’s also carries a soft guitar case that somehow doubles as a small amplifier, a guitar-shaped vinyl purse, a harmonica, guitar polish and a ukulele tuner.
