Dateline: North CarolinaSheriff’s deputies in Halifax County arrested an aspiring drug dealer who they say tried to sell a crushed-up Pop-Tart, claiming it was cocaine. WCTI 12 reports 30-year-old delivery driver Cameron Mitchell of Rocky Mount allegedly “agreed” to sell some crack cocaine for $20 to an undercover agent at a convenience store. Agents field tested the evidence, and it came up negative for the presence of cocaine. Mitchell’s truck was searched, and no drugs were found. Agents of the Operation Southern Summer drug sting say Mitchell told them he needed the money, so he went into his truck and found the corner of a Pop-Tart, which he then passed off as crack cocaine. Mitchell is charged with selling or delivering a counterfeit controlled substance and creating a counterfeit controlled substance.Dateline: OklahomaTwo young men are charged with allegedly spraying deer urine all over merchandise at a Walmart in Owasso. More than $2,500 worth of toys, fabrics and shoes were ruined inside the store as other shoppers watched in disgust. Cody Hudson, 18, and Jon Ohlman, 24, were arrested in the store’s parking lot and charged with malicious injury to property. According to FoxCarolina.com, witnesses said they saw six suspects hosing the store down with deer pee, but Hudson and Ohlman told police they were the only ones responsible. So far no other suspects have been arrested, but further charges could be forthcoming. “It’s weird. It’s very weird and disgusting,” shopper Cali Emberson told Fox 23 News. Hudson and Ohlman are scheduled to appear in court later this month.Dateline: FloridaPedestrians in Fort Lauderdale have been asked to wave orange flags while crossing the street so that they don’t get killed by speeding motorists. Local officials have placed buckets of neon orange flags and instructions for their use at a pedestrian crossing on Los Olas Boulevard. The flags are part of a road safety experiment to make people more visible to motorists. Pedestrians are asked to deposit the flags in a bucket on the other side of the road crossing. The project has been tested in other US cities. In Berkeley in 2004, it was estimated that only about 2 percent of pedestrians used the flags. Another test in Seattle in 2008 placed flags at 17 crossings. The program was shut down after the city’s department of transportation complained that “people kept stealing the flags.” According to the Miami Herald, three of the four flags in Fort Lauderdale have already been stolen.Dateline: MichiganAccording to police in Fruitport Township, an alleged shoplifter who “didn’t feel like walking” tried to make an extremely low-speed getaway on a motorized shopping cart. Police were called on Sept. 8 when a Walmart customer saw 46-year-old Shirley Mason leave the parking lot on one of the store’s motorized shopping carts. An officer located the suspect and an alleged male accomplice about two miles away from the store. Mason, who police said had an outstanding warrant for her arrest on a previous incident at a Walmart store in Roosevelt Park, allegedly had more than $600 worth of stolen goods on her. She was also charged with theft of the cart, which is worth $1,200. Mason told officers she took the cart while shoplifting “because she didn’t feel like walking.” Mason was arrested on a charge of organized retail crime in addition to her previous charge of second-degree retail fraud from the incident in Roosevelt Park. The 53-year-old man Mason was with was also arrested on a parole violation.Dateline: OregonOfficials in coastal Oregon say a woman has been arrested after breaking into a house, pushing a woman down the stairs, pulling her hair, biting her face and then telling the victim it was all part of a “zombie game.” According to the Coos County Sheriff’s Department, 27-year-old Jessica Rocha broke into the home in the city of Lakeside shortly before 1am on Sept. 8 and attacked 37-year-old Erica Tate. The deputies who arrested Rocha said she was drunk and possibly high at the time. “She was making comments about playing a zombie game,” Sgt. Kelley Andrews told reporters. “I’ve never heard of that.” According to Coos Bay’s The World newspaper, Rocha has been charged with first-degree attempted burglary, fourth-degree assault, harassment, unlawful entry to a motor vehicle and third-degree criminal mischief.
