Albuquerque, NM — Albuquerque’s weekly alternative newspaper is getting a fresh new face. After operating under NuCity Publications for 28 years, Weekly Alibi will now be published under new ownership, Good Trouble LLLP, a partnership of Pat Davis and Abby Lewis. Davis will take over the role of publisher for Weekly Alibi. Under new ownership, Weekly Alibi will be New Mexico’s largest queer-owned news outlet.

As with so many media organizations nationwide, the coronavirus pandemic hit
Weekly Alibi hard. After a short break in publishing a print edition, the newspaper hit stands again in June of this year.

“I’m excited that the paper gets to keep publishing; the prospect of closing the paper was devastating,” said NuCity Publications co-owner Chris Johnson. “We have such a great team at the paper, I’m glad to see that it can continue.”

Serving the Albuquerque metro area, as well as special publications that are distributed state-wide,
Weekly Alibi has long been the hallmark of alternative journalism in New Mexico. Started in 1992 by Chris Johnson and Dan Scott, the paper has continued in their ownership until the sale to Good Trouble.

“As owners, Chris and Dan have built more than a paper. They built a New Mexico institution and a legacy that has published, online or in print, every week for 28 years. I can’t imagine Albuquerque without it,” said Pat Davis. “We will continue to be an alternative, independent and diverse voice of media in New Mexico. Now, more than ever, those other voices need a megaphone.” Davis adds that under new ownership, readers will see an expanded offering of products and local experiences as well as more in-depth investigative journalism.

Good Trouble Partner Abby Lewis is also excited about the continuation of the paper. “Growing up in Albuquerque, I grew up on
The Alibi and I am so happy to be joining the team and helping to continue the good work," says Abby Lewis.

Weekly Alibi is a member of the New Mexico Press Association, the New Mexico Women’s Press Association, the Hispano Chamber of Commerce, Alternative Newspaper Association and the New Mexico Cannabis Chamber of Commerce.

Good Trouble, LLLP is a partnership of Pat Davis and Abby Lewis. In 2014, Davis founded the non-profit news outlet, New Mexico Political Report. He also serves as an Albuquerque city councilor. Lewis is an Albuquerque small business owner.
