Skull Control is an Albuquerque hip-hop record label that behaves like a crew, with dozens of MCs, DJs and visual artists, and groups like Saint Sinner Suns and Mantis Fist carrying its banner. The crew/label model is working out well. Hip-hop and rap artists in this state can be insular to the point of obscurity. Whether it’s self-imposed or just a lack of organization, many are content to record and release albums that few people actually get to hear. Not Skull Control. It’s the most vocal hip-hop collective in the area.
