You've got one last chance to see a local production of The Nutcracker. Don't miss this opportunity to expose yourself and the kids in your life to the most popular ballet ever made. Ballet Theatre of New Mexico will be putting up its yearly rendition of the Tchaikovsky classic at the KiMo Theatre (423 Central NW ) on Thursday, Dec. 23, at 7 p.m. and Friday, Dec. 24, at 1 p.m.

Staged by Katherine Giese, the show stars Julie Tuccillo as the Sugar Plum Fairy, Louis Gianinni as Cavalier, Annie Cormier as the Snow Queen, Amelia Harvey as Clara and Kyle Linzer as that fabulous dancing, wise-cracking Nutcracker. The best time to bring along the youngsters is the Christmas Eve performance. That show will be followed by Ballet Theatre's Nutcracker Tea during which kids will be able to stuff their cheeks with treats from the Kingdom of Sweets. Several key characters from the ballet will be hanging around as well to sign autographs, pose for photos, and scare the bejesus out of the more timid children.

Tickets cost $15 to $20 with a $2 discount for seniors, kids 10 and under, and college students with current ID. The Dec. 24 performance costs an additional $5 per ticket. Order by calling the KiMo Theatre box office at 768-3544 or by logging on to www.ticketmaster.com. It's the only chance you're ever going to get, without resorting to mind-altering drugs, to see giant mice battling toy soldiers. For details about the company, log on to www.btnm.org.
