TED Time!

Ideas worth spreading. This is the mission of the nonprofit organization TED, which works toward changing attitudes, lives and the world. It began with two annual conferences where some of the world’s greatest innovators and insight-givers were challenged to give the best talk they could in 18 minutes or less. Videos of the talks are regularly posted online for everyone to watch, share and love.

A womanwho was blind but didn’t know it until she was a teenageruses her experience to change the way we view differently abled people. Best-selling author Elizabeth Gilbert delves into ancient Greek ideas to battle an overwhelming pressure felt by artists to be “geniuses.” These are just a couple (badly butchered descriptions of) talks I’ve seen. They had me smiling through tears, fully inspired. TED has branched out, creating more worldwide conferences, a TED award program and the TEDx events, which allow other communities to have their own conferences.

On Sept. 10, Albuquerque will wrap its arms around a TEDx talk at the National Hispanic Cultural Center. So far, the lineup has more than 12 speakers, including poet Hakim Bellamy, social entrepreneur Susan Matteucci, architectural designer Rachel Preston Prinz and Nina Simons, co-founder of Bioneers.

The first two people to comment on that blog with their own favorite TED talk will each win a pair of tickets.

TED Tickets

Tickets go on sale for Friday, July 15, and they’re only $45 instead of the mint it costs to attend the international conference. These babies are going to go fast, guaranteed: Visit tedxabq.com for details. But the Alibi has two pairs to give away. Here’s how you can nab them. In the next couple of days, I’ll be posting a blog on the Alibi site, about the most-watched TED talks. The first two people to comment on that blog with their own favorite TED talk will each win a pair of tickets. Start watching alibi.com on Thursday, July 14. I could post at any time!
