Get Your Chones On!– On Thursday, Aug. 10, the Yale Art Center will host its second “Thursday Night Chones,” an open-sheet screening of local short films/videos. Come see the work of Albuquerque’s talented local motion picture artists and meet people in the field of film. Thursday Night Chones takes place on the second Thursday of every month. Local Doc Premieres Locally– On Friday, Aug. 11, the Albuquerque Little Theater will air two showings of a new feature-length film titled Reaching Raja: A Miraculous Journey into Autism Recovery. This educational documentary depicts young Raja Cheney and his successful, inspiring journey overcoming the limitations of severe and moderate autism. The event is being organized by the film’s co-producers, Michelle Cheney (Raja’s mother and author of Climbing Out of Autism One Bite at a Time ) and Victor Proo (documentary artist and father of a high-functioning Down syndrome son). Itching to Animate?– If you’re an animator interested in the digital field, local video game developer Abalone Studios is on the hunt for a digital modeler, digital texture artist and a traditional illustrator. Competency in Photoshop and 3DS Max is a plus. Artistic, technical and software training will be provided by the company’s resident art director. Positions begin immediately. If you’re interested, please submit a full digital portfolio on CD along with a paper résumé, two professional references and a cover letter explaining your qualifications and artistic background. Write to Win– Screenwriter Lori Romero, winner of the Manhattan Short Film Festival’s Scripts and Screenplay Competition, will be in Albuquerque next weekend to conduct a seminar on “The Nuts and Bolts Of Entering Screenwriting Contests.” Sponsored by the New Mexico Screenwriters Speakers Series, this tip-filled seminar provides some basic ideas that will help you figure out which contests are good and which are bunk before you hand over your script and credit card number. The event will take place Saturday, Aug. 19, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Rio Grande Studios (6608 Gulton Court NE). There is a $15 registration fee and seating is limited.
