Thursday 24

“Return to Area 51” (TLC 7 p.m.) TLC goes back to Arizona’s infamous Area 51 to find it’s now a dumping ground for old experimental airplanes–proving that A) the place was never quite as exciting as conspiracy theorists would have you believe, or B) the truth is still out there!

Friday 25

“Remarkable Journey” (KOAT-7 8 p.m.) NAACP President Kweisi Mfume does something about the lack of diversity on network television by hosting this talk show spotlighting American achievers–which would be a lot more inspirational if it weren’t preceded by a rerun of “America’s Funniest Home Videos.”

Saturday 26

“1940s House” (KNME-5 7 p.m.) As far as these historical recreation shows go, the pantywaists holed up in 1940s House don’t have it nearly as bad as the ones who got stuck in Frontier House or Colonial House. I mean, no TVs, but at least they don’t have to make their own soap.

Sunday 27

“The 4400” (USA 7 p.m.) Will the 4400 save or destroy the future? Or will it all end on one big season-ending cliff-hanger? I’m betting on the latter.

“Deadwood” (HBO 10 p.m.) Hopefully, HBO is still planning on running a couple “Deadwood” miniseries after this, but–theoretically–this is the series ender. Expect a lot of people to get plugged.

“Reno 911” (Comedy Central 11:30 p.m.) The deputies continue their inept investigation into the murder of Sheriff Chechekevitch in tonight’s season finale.

Monday 28

“Katrina: The Long Road Back” (KOB-4 7 p.m.) NBC News, which has maintained the longest and most intimate contact with the survivors of Katrina of all the evening newscasts, looks back on the last year to see where New Orleans and the Gulf Coast sits today.

“Fashion Police: The 2006 Emmys” (Style 8 p.m.) Who wore what, who looked hot, and–most importantly–who stank up the Red Carpet with their loony fashion sense?

“Emmy Fashion Wrap-up 2006 With Joan and Melissa” (TVG 9 p.m.) I almost feel bad for the Rivers gals now that they’re stranded in a tiny box above the TV listings crawl. Almost.

Tuesday 29

“Celebrity Duets” (KASA-2 7 p.m.) Chris Jericho, Lucy Lawless, Cheech Marin, Carly Patterson, Alfonso Ribeiro, Jai Rodriguez, Hal Sparks and Lea Thompson team up with professional singers to see who’s got the best set of pipes. I’m pretty tired of watching celebrities dance or sing or ice skate or whatever. But honestly, I’m a little amazed at the level of talent here. I’ve heard of all these celebrities, and not one of them is a former reality show star.

Wednesday 30

“Justice” (KASA-2 8 p.m.) FOX serves up the first new lawyer drama of the fall season. The minor twist in this one? At the end of the show, you get to find out what really happened in the crime. .. If you don’t like it, don’t worry, there are plenty more lawyer shows where this one came from.
