Marisol — Class is back in session, and UNM’s Department of Theatre and Dance is pulling back the curtain on an exciting new season. Jose Rivera’s award-winning Marisol is playing one more weekend in Theatre X, located downstairs in the University’s Center for the Arts. Set in a surrealistic Bronx, the play tells the story of an Everywoman named Marisol Perez who attempts to find meaning in a world on the brink of self-destruction. With the looming apocalypse on everyone’s brain these days, this show should be a serious thought provoker. Art Club Auction— Sure, the new acronym makes it sound suspiciously similar to our regional public utility, but otherwise CNM is just good ol’ TVI with a new face. The community college’s Art Club is holding a silent art auction through Sept. 15 at the Student Gallery on the Main Campus. Work includes drawings, paintings, prints and ceramics, and all proceeds will benefit the art club. Stop on by, pick up some inexpensive art from some up-and-comers and support a very good cause. A Slice of Life— They’re calling it an Urban Motherfolk Revue. A variety of dancers, musicians, actors and other performers are descending on Out ch’Yonda (929 Fourth Street SW) starting this weekend for a variety show performance that they promise will be “deep, moving and funny as all get out!” Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., Sundays at 3 p.m. $15 general, $12 students/seniors.
