“Ugly Betty” (KOAT-7 7 p.m.) Forget what MyNetTV is doing to besmirch the name of telenovelas. This smartly produced comedy/drama about a plain Jane gal (America Ferrara, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants ) who gets a job at a fashion magazine has been reproduced in seven different versions (in places like India, Israel and Germany) since its original Colombian incarnation in 1999. Now it’s the United States’ turn to get ugly.

“ER” (KOB-4 9 p.m.) John Stamos joins the cast? You know, I had written off “ER” a couple seasons ago, but it seems I was premature. … Now it’s really and truly dead.

Friday 29

“Doctor Who” (Sci-Fi 7 p.m.) David Tennant signs on as the 10 th incarnation of the BBC’s time-traveling tourist. (Christopher Eccleston, we hardly knew ye.)

Saturday 30

“Hot Docs: My 100,000 Lovers” (BBC America 7 p.m.) Honestly, that’s not an exaggeration. Although, the claim is split between three people, the subjects of this salacious documentary about sex addicts.

Sunday 1

“Dexter” (Showtime 8 p.m.) Michael C. Hall (recently employed on HBO’s “Six Feet Under”) stars in this unusual and quickly addictive series about an oddly likable serial killer who hacks up bad people. … Well, people who are badder than him, anyway.

“House of Carters” (E! 11:30 p.m.) Sadly (depending on how you look at it), this is not a reality series about former President Jimmy Carter and his ne’er-do-well brother Billy, but a look at the lives of tween idols Aaron Carter, Nick Carter and the entire Aryan-looking Carter clan.

“Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law” (Cartoon Network 12:45 a.m.) “ Harvey Birdman” returns to Adult Swim, but two regular characters will allegedly be biting the dust. Hopefully, its not the random clapping bear. I like the random clapping bear.

Monday 2

“Ninja Castle” (G4 1:30 a.m.) What would happen if you were to cross “Fear Factor” with “American Gladiators”? Well, it still wouldn’t match this insane game show import from Japan.

Tuesday 3

“Major League Division Playoff Game One” (KASA-2 6 p.m.) Ladies and gentleman, the perennial answer as to why all your favorite FOX shows are on hiatus again.

“Friday Night Lights” (KOB-4 7 p.m.) The hit film about high school football becomes a weekly TV series. But will they win the big game?

Wednesday 4

“Lost” (KOAT-7 8 p.m.) OK, so who the hell are these “Others”? Enlighten me, Mr. Abrams.

“The Nine” (KOAT-7 9 p.m.) This is among the new season’s most intriguing new dramas, a look at nine interlocking characters, all of whom have survived a life-altering hostage situation at a bank robbery.

“Freak Show” (Comedy Central 11:30 p.m.) CC unleashes another outrageous animated series, this one about crimefighting circus freaks. H. Tod Benjamin, David Cross, Will Arnet and Janeane Garofalo are among the voicecast. Benjamin (“Home Movies”) and Cross (“Mr. Show”) are the writers.
