Tropicana Havana— As the New Mexico air turns frigid, your imagination will soon start to wander to warmer, more tropical locales. No need to whip out the plastic to pay for a flight to the Caribbean. Just drive on up to Santa Fe for the annual benefit for the Museum of International Folk Art’s education and outreach programs. This Sunday, Nov. 4, mojitos and other exotic drinks will be served along with grub from a host of Santa Fe’s finest caterers. Live music will be provided by Nosotros. Pretty Good Year— Jesse Pearson unveils a new photographic installation at [AC]2 this weekend. “Essentially it is a running narrative of my life,” Pearson writes in his artist statement. “Even though the images are real and true, they are manufactured, as are all of our lives and personal experiences. Many of the images that appear to be ‘documentary’ are in fact highly constructed and posed. They describe how things felt more than how things might have actually been.” His show, titled Pretty Good Year , opens Saturday, Nov. 4, with a reception from 6 to 9 p.m. at [AC]2 (301 Mountain NE). On the Altar— ‘Tis the season of altars, and Owings Dewey North (120 East Marcy Street) up in Santa Fe is hosting its annual invitational exhibit of shrines created by local, contemporary artists. Some of these are almost too hip to believe, and proceeds will benefit the Santa Fe Rape Crisis and Trauma Treatment Center.
