Actors Wanted– Open auditions are being held this week for a local feature film based on the idea that New Mexico truly is the “Land of Entrapment.” The feature film is described as a redemption story that follows one young man’s fight to escape Albuquerque. Producers are seeking local actors, union and nonunion, aged 18-45, of all races. Auditions will be held at Marcello’s Chophouse in the new ABQ Uptown shopping center (corner of Louisiana and Indian School) on Jan. 19, 20 and 21 from 10:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. Interested parties are advised to prepare a two- to three-minute monologue. The Silent Treatment– To kick off the Seventh Annual Revolutions International Theatre Festival, Tricklock Company, in partnership with the National Hispanic Cultural Center, will present an “interpretation” of director Enrique Rosas’ classic 1919 silent film El Automovil Gris ( The Grey Automobile ). This production from Teatro de Ciertos Habitantes (Certain Inhabitants Theatre) of Mexico City features live vocal talent and musical accompaniment and will be presented in Spanish, English and Japanese. Performances take place Friday and Saturday, Jan. 19 and 20, at the Albuquerque Journal Theatre at the National Hispanic Cultural Center. Showtime is 8 p.m. Tickets are available through the NHCC Box Office (724-4771) and range from $25 (rows 1-12) to $15 (balcony).

Film Friends– Local arts org Friends of Film, Video and Arts Foundation recently launched its new show on Cable Access Channel 27. Airing Mondays at 9 p.m., “Director’s Cut New Mexico” shines a much-needed spotlight on local film- and video-makers. To celebrate, Friends of Film, Video and Arts Foundation will have their next gathering on Sunday, Jan. 21, from 3-6 p.m. at the Harwood Art Center. This gathering includes a screening and discussion of “Art of the Interview,” the January episode of “Director’s Cut New Mexico,” which focuses on documentary films. Calling All Kids– Youth Development, Inc. is producing a documentary about the struggles facing Albuquerque middle school students ages 11 to 13. YDI will be hosting a casting call to recruit students to participate in making the documentary both behind and in front of the camera. Eligible students should be actively attending a public middle school in the Albuquerque metropolitan area and ideally have an interest in movie-making as a future career.
