Agnes of God— The Desert Rose Playhouse, the NE Heights’ only theater, opens a new production of John Pielmeier’s Agnes of God , about a young nun accused of killing her own baby. Politic — You might know the name Joe Forrest Sackett from its association with several locally produced, socially minded plays. Sackett has now turned his attention to visual art for a solo exhibit at the Harwood Art Center. Titled Politic , the show incorporates symbols and images from the daily news into steel and mixed-media work, urging viewers to consider these images in the context of our polarized political environment. A reception for the exhibit will be held this Friday, Jan. 19, from 5 to 8:30 p.m. in conjunction with ArtsCrawl (artscrawl.org). It runs through the end of the month. 242-6367.

Lorca Tribute— Up in Placitas, the next installment in the Duende Poetry Series features four New Mexico poets—Gary Bower, Gary Glazner, Leo Romero and Joan Logghe—paying tribute to the great Spanish poet Federico Garcia Lorca. Flamenco dancer Susana Garrett will also perform, accompanied by guitarist El Niño David.
