Más Cinema, Por Favor– Cinemás, the Albuquerque Latino Film Festival, will take place Thursday, Feb. 15, through Sunday, Feb. 18. Film screenings are spread between the KiMo Theatre in Downtown, the ARTS Lab Garage at UNM, the Guild Cinema in Nob Hill and the National Hispanic Cultural Center on Broadway. Features, documentaries and shorts from Brazil, Mexico, Spain, Argentina, Panama, Chile, Venezuela, Peru, Uruguay and the United States will be featured in the four-day fest. Organized by UNM’s Arts of the Americas Institute in the College of Fine Arts, the festival includes an emphasis on filmmakers, scholarly work and generating an atmosphere for discussion.Thursday’s opening night film is Quase Dois Irmaos (Almost Brothers) , an epic story of two men growing up on opposite sides of the Rio de Janeiro economy from the ’50s through the ’70s. The film is written by Paulo Lins, the man behind the Academy Award-winning film City of God . The screening will take place at 7 p.m. at the KiMo Theatre. In all, there are 16 different programs to choose from. Highlights for Friday include the “2006 Governor’s Cup Films”–a collection of four short films shot right here in New Mexico with money derived from the governor’s recent filmmaking incentives. There will be a Q&A with the filmmakers afterward (Guild Cinema, 6 p.m.). Saturday’s offerings include a screening of selections from L.A.’s Cine Sin Fin short film festival (Guild Cinema 3:30 p.m.).
