Thursday 5

“Big Brother 8” (KRQE-13 7 p.m.) It’s the premiere of season eight! … Well, Julie Chen is excited, anyway.

Friday 6

“Doctor Who” (Sci-Fi 7 p.m.) It’s the third, freshly imported season of “Doctor Who.” Well, not the third , precisely, since the show has been on the air since 1963–but it is the third season in the BBC’s newest iteration. David Tennant returns as the time-and-space-traveling adventurer. Freema Agyeman jumps on board as his new companion.

Saturday 7

“Live Earth: A Concert for a Climate in Crisis” (KOB-4 7 p.m.) “Ladies and gentlemen, our planet is on the brink of environmental disaster. … And now, Bon Jovi !”

Avenging Angel (Hallmark 7 p.m.) I’m sure this Western about a preacher who becomes a bounty hunter ends up with some sort of Hallmark-approved “feel-good” ending, but I congratulate producers for putting together such an odd cast, including Kevin Sorbo (“Hercules: The Legendary Journeys”), Cynthia Watros (“Lost”) and seminal B-movie tough guy Wings Hauser ( Bedroom Eyes II, Beastmaster 2, Watchers III ).

Sunday 8

“American Bodyshop” (Comedy Central 11:30 p.m.) CC spoofs the “American Hot Rod”/“Monster Garage”/“Pimped” genre with this faux documentary series about an incompetent auto shop in Arizona.

Monday 9

“Greek” (ABC Family 7 p.m.) ABC Fam goes a little PG-13 with their new sitcom about a geek trying to pledge the most popular fraternity on campus.

The Bronx is Burning (ESPN 8 p.m.) This eight-part ESPN miniseries concentrates on efforts by the New York Yankees to win the 1977 World Series. Oliver Platt (“Huff”) is on board as owner George Steinbrenner, while John Turturro ( Do the Right Thing ) tries on the cap of manager Billy Martin.

Tuesday 10

“Eureka” (Sci-Fi 7 p.m.) Sci-Fi’s weekly drama/comedy about an isolated enclave of eggheads hits its second season.

“The Singing Bee” (KOB-4 8:30 p.m.) If only there were some way for marginally talented singers to show off their pipes and be judged by C-list celebrities. Well, until a network comes up with some sort of show along those lines, we’ll just have to settle for this karaoke-style competition–which rewards people more for their ability to remember the lyrics than for their ability to sing.

Wednesday 11

“Code Monkeys” (G4 7 p.m.) This new animated sitcom about videogame programmers in the high-flying ’80s gets extra points for being rendered in temporally appropriate “8-bit” style.

“Don’t Forget the Lyrics!” (KASA-2 8:30 p.m.) If only there were some way for marginally talented singers to show off their pipes and be judged by C-list celebrities. Well, until a network comes up with some sort of show along those lines, we’ll just have to settle for this karaoke-style competition–which rewards people more for their ability to remember the lyrics than for their ability to sing. … Why does this sound so familiar?
