“Mad Men” (AMC 8 p.m.) Set in 1960 New York, this new weekly drama takes viewers into the high-powered and glamorous world of the “golden age” of advertising—the days when men in suits drank and smoked while trying to come up with ways to sell cigarettes and booze. Think Glengarry Glen Ross on Madison Avenue.

Friday 20

“Set for Life” (KOAT-7 7 p.m.) Jimmy Kimmel hosts this generic gameshow in which contestants can win a monthly check for the rest of their lives. Sounds dull, but it is a nice “full circle” for Kimmel, who got his start co-hosting the classic Comedy Central gameshow “Win Ben Stein’s Money.”

Saturday 21

“Hex” (BBC America 7 p.m.) Hate to break it to you, but this “season finale” of the sexy British horror drama is actually a “series finale.” England’s Sky One never made a third season, leaving fans dangling in the wind. … Feel free to fill in the gaps with loads of online fanfic, however.

“Bill Maher: The Decider” (HBO 11 p.m.) Comedian/talk show host Bill Maher unleashes in a live standup special. I’m just guessing here, but I bet he’s gonna make a joke or two about the president.

Sunday 22

The Kill Point (Spike 7 p.m.) This four-part mini-series concentrates on a group of Iraq War veterans who find themselves in the middle of a deadly hostage situation after their attempt to rob a bank goes horribly wrong. John Leguizamo and Donnie Wahlberg are among the pinned-down cast.

Monday 23

“CMA Music Festival: Country’s Night to Rock” (KOAT-7 8 p.m.) Funny, but rock music never has to sell itself as a different genre. You never see “MTV Music Awards: Rock’s Night to Get All Twangy.”

Tuesday 24

“Flipping Out: Preview Special” (Bravo 9 p.m.) In case you’ve never seen one of the countless docu-reality series on TV about the practice of house flipping, here’s a half-hour preview to explain Bravo’s new series about an L.A.-area real estate mogul. Since this is Bravo, he’s gay, of course.

“Damages” (FX 11 p.m.) Glenn Close, yet another high-profile actor currently wrapped up in cable, stars as a pitiless corporate litigator who pisses off a vengeful CEO (Ted Danson). Rose Byrne ( 28 Weeks Later ) and Tate Donovan (“The O.C.”) round out the cast of this weekly legal thriller.

Wednesday 25

“Next Best Thing: Who is the Greatest Celebrity Impersonator?” (KOAT-7 7 p.m.) ABC’s look-alike contest finally answers its own question with tonight’s season finale.
