When Title Wave Books first opened, it was a used bookstore.Now, 13 years later, Title Wave Books (1408 Eubank NE, 294-9495) is still a used bookstore—and, boy, do they have a lot of ’em. Kirin Farrell, co-owner of Title Wave with her brother Dave Farrell, says the shelves hold more than 200,000 books ready to be reread in 400 different categories. They do stock a few new books, but in a specialized capacity: local titles only. Farrell says they allow local authors to sell their works at Title Wave on consignment because many of their costumers are interested in local offerings.To celebrate 13 years of recycling the written word, Title Wave will host readings, talks, panel discussions and signings with eight local authors this Saturday, Oct. 20, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Come early for children’s face-painting, hot dogs, cake and a K-9 demonstration by the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department starting around 11 a.m. At 2 p.m., fantasy writer Daniel Abraham will read from A Betrayal in Winter, released by fantasy super-publisher Tor Books in August. Shortly following, multiple-genre author Robert E. Vardeman, who’s published more than 80 novels, will read from his first collection of short works, Stories from Desert Bob’s Reptile Ranch . A panel discussion with six local authors titled "The State of the Art: What We’re Writing Now" will round out the day at 3:30 p.m. All events are free and open to all bibliophiles.Happy 13 th , Title Wave!

Josh Jones and his art mafia are back. The Black Market Goods art and fashion show, with some jams by DJ Furious Joe, will take over the Princess Jeanne Shopping Center (1520 Eubank NE) on Saturday, Oct. 20, starting at 8 p.m. Black Market Goods is all about showcasing work by local artists you won’t likely find in a gallery.
