The Albuquerque Peace and Justice Center (located, as always, at 202 Harvard SE) will present the latest in its People Before Profit Film & Lecture Series this Thursday, Oct. 18, beginning at 7 p.m. The film will be Peace One Day , a documentary about Jeremy Gilley’s personal quest to persuade the United Nations to officially recognize an annual Peace Day with a fixed calendar date. Gilley’s efforts helped establish the annual day of global ceasefire and nonviolence as Sept. 21. After the film, the guest speaker will be Jody Oyas, state coordinator of the Campaign for U.S. Department of Peace & Nonviolence. This event is free and open to the public, athough donations to the Peace and Justice Center will be welcome.
Volunteer For Film
People interested in volunteering for this year’s Santa Fe Film Festival are invited to attend an orientation session at 11 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 21, at the Film Center (1616 St. Michael’s Drive). The meeting is for both past and new volunteers. Festival coordinators will be present to explain what positions need filling in each department. The Santa Fe Film Festival, now in its eighth season, will take place Wednesday, Nov. 28, through Sunday, Dec. 2, 2007. The five-day extravaganza showcases more than 80 programs encompassing roughly 200 films, shorts and features of all genres, themes and topics. Gathering Of Friends
Friends of Film, Video and Arts will hold their monthly meeting on Sunday, Oct. 21, at the Harwood Art Center (1114 Seventh Street NW) beginning at 3:30 p.m. There will be a “meet and mingle” as well as screenings of films by members. Veteran producer Ken Knoll will be there to discuss “The Business of Film.” Entertainment law, copyright, intellectual property and a myriad of issues indie filmmakers face distributing films will be discussed. This event is free to FoFVA members and there is a suggested $5 donation for non-members. Friends of Film, Video and Arts is a nonprofit, member-driven organization of independent filmmakers working as peers to make quality films while enhancing their individual education, work experience, trade relationship and overall satisfaction with the film industry in New Mexico.
